26.07.19 : Happy National Rebellion Day 2019 !

Good day dear blog followers, readers, listeners, y todos los amantes de la musica Cubana !

Today Cuba celebrates national rebellion day, one of its major national holidays.
This day is celebrated to commemorate the unofficial start of the Cuban revolution and liberation from the American backed dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista.

On this day in 1953, a band of 135 freedom fighters, led by Fidel Castro and Ernesto “Che” Guevara, gathered at a farm in Siboney, and at 5AM stormed the Moncada barracks at Santiago de Cuba, planning to take possession of the weapons, ammunition and communications equipment stored inside.
The attack failed, with nearly half of the fighters killed and over 50 more (including fidel, raul and Che) captured and imprisoned, then sentenced for 15 years incarceration.

Despite the failure, this attack sparked a surge of national resistance to the dictatorship, with a massive support campaign for the revolutionaries, leading to their amnesty in 1955, and rallying much support for the revolution soon to come.

So, for this glorious day, we have a wonderful album called “Album de la Revolucion Cubana”, released in 2000, commemorating 40 years of the release of a comic book chronicle of the Cuban revolution.
The album includes some of Cuba’s greatest musicians such as Omara Portuondo, Pio Leyva, Los Papines and Orquesta Aragon, performing a variety of Cuban revolutionary and patriotic compositions in the various rhythms and musical genres of the island, traditional and modern alike.

So, without further ado, here is the album!
And always remember…
¡Viva la revolucion!
¡Hasta la victoria siempre!
¡Sigue disfrutando la musica Cubana!
