05.07.19 : Los Van Van, live from Salon Copa Room 1982!

Good day dear blog followers, listeners, readers ¡y todos los amantes de la musica Cubana!

Earlier today I was checking my mail, and stumbled upon a correspondence, several months old, where I shared a fine piece of music with a good friend… for me, the 1980’s are a period of many hits for Los Van Van, in which their style was determined and formed, but unfortunately, also a period forgotten by many DJs, dancers and listeners alike… so let us change that, here and now!

The following concert is from the Copa Room of the Habana Riviera hotel in 1982 (!), and contains such virtuosos as Juan Formell, Cesar “pupy” Pedroso, Miguel Angel Rasalps “el Lele” (Sr) and Pedrito Calvo, just to name a few.

So, without further ado, here it is, a great pleasure for the ears and eyes, so take a 93 minute break from whatever you are doing, and submerge yourselves in the bliss of Songo… and always remember… ¡sigue disfrutando la musica Cubana!

28.06.19 : Maykel Blanco y Yoruba Andabo – La Cafetera

Good day dear blog followers, readers, listeners, y todos los amantes de la musica Cubana !

Returning from a wonderful event such as the 10th Guaguanco festival is always a bit of a sad occurrence, as you know that at least for now, the fun is over and it will be a while until you get to experience it all over again, 4-5 days of wonder…

But on the other hand, the blog is back on track!
For today I shall be presenting a great mix of Timba and Guanguanco, which were brought together by the wonderful collaboration of Maykel Blanco and Yoruba Andabo in his latest album “Que Tiene Que Te Mueve”.
The song is a remake of a pure Rumba composition by the above mentioned folkloric & popular music ensemble from a few years back, and was often played at the festival, during classes and parties alike.

So, here is the original

And here is the new Timba version

And always remember… ¡sigue disfrutando la musica Cubana!

14.06.19 : De Reve a Van Van – Mega Concierto de las Dos Leyendas !

Good day dear blog readers, followers, listeners ¡y todos los amantes de la musica Cubana!

Today I have a special treat for us all;
In Decembre 2017, an unprecedented event took place at the music scene of La Habana…
To commemorate two of the greatest people in the history of contemporary Cuban music, their decedents, leaders of Cuba’s top two primera line ensembles, Orquesta Reve & Los Van Van, came together for a one time event at La Capital.

This was the Dos Leyendas mega concert, the time and place when the groups in which the memory and talent of the forefathers Elio and Juan lives on, performing their greatest hits, together.

I believe that such groups need no introduction, and that there is little point in trying to describe an event of such magnitude in writing… one can just listen, observe and delve into this marvel, which was released on DVD a short while ago.

So, without further ado, here it is.
And always remember… ¡sigue disfrutando la musica Cubana!
*the clip below is the first in a playlist containing most of the concert.

Today I present you a young talent from Cuba, Leonardo Diago nad his band, La Nueva Era de Cuba!

This band of well to do young folks from the capital have recently established themselves at the city’s music scene, releasing several compositions in various genres of Cuban music.
The band moves forwards inspired by the idea of bringing together the old, which many today know little of, with the hottest trends of contemporary Cuban music, thus creating a new era of quality and diversity.
As stated on their own page, the band bases its music on the works of such great artists as Benny More, Celia Cruz, Juan Formell, Bebbo Valdes, Elio Reve, Odilio Urfe, Lili Martinez, just to name a few.

Without further ado, let us now listen!
And always remember… ¡sigue disfrutando la musica Cubana!
