{"id":591,"date":"2016-04-22T07:53:55","date_gmt":"2016-04-22T07:53:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/salsalust.com\/blogs\/cuban_music_che\/?p=591"},"modified":"2016-04-22T07:53:55","modified_gmt":"2016-04-22T07:53:55","slug":"22-04-16-los-van-van-aqui-el-que-baila-gana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/salsayo.com\/blogs\/cuban_music_che\/?p=591","title":{"rendered":"22.04.16 : Los Van Van &#8211; Aqui el Que Baila Gana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Good day dear readers and blog followers!<\/p>\n<p>Today I gladly present you a wonderful masterpiece by none other than the great <a href=\"http:\/\/salsalust.com\/blogs\/cuban_music_che\/?p=297\">Los Van Van<\/a>!<br \/>\nFormed in 1969 by the great <a href=\"http:\/\/salsalust.com\/blogs\/cuban_music_che\/?p=297\">Juan Formell<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/salsalust.com\/blogs\/cuban_music_che\/?p=82\">Cesar &#8220;Pupy&#8221; Pedroso<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Je5bChxa7sc\">Jose Luis Quitana &#8220;Changuito&#8221;<\/a> among others, the band was to become one of the most influential in Cuba (and even beyond its borders), and will keep creating &#8217;till this day.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.music-bazaar.com\/album-images\/vol1\/122\/122728\/668009-big\/Aqui-El-Que-Baila-Gana-cover.jpg\" width=\"1421\" height=\"1421\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The band even created its own genre of music, Songo, which shaped modern Cuban music and changed it forever.<br \/>\nSongo takes the traditional Charanga sound to the next level using synthesizers, improvised timbales-drum kit hybrid percussion, trombones, melodic bass lines and chord progressions, and extended, improvised bridges \\ transitions between various song parts.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_xidcvj9qZII\/TQBfiXS6wHI\/AAAAAAAACjo\/fqzzs44hyrI\/s1600\/timba_genealogia.JPG\" width=\"817\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When Timba came to be during the mid to late 1980&#8217;s, it was a direct continuation of Songo in many ways;<br \/>\nAfro Cuban elements were used in Songo at times, but in Timba became very much the centre of attention,\u00a0improvised percussion sets were replaced by &#8220;modern&#8221; drum kits, melodic bass lines and complex chord progressions became the standard for most bands, trombones were &#8220;buffed up&#8221; by trumpets and other horns, and the improvised bridges became the well known (and much loved) &#8220;guias \\ gears&#8221; so characteristic of Timba music.<\/p>\n<p>So, it is safe to say that without Los Van Van and their Majestic Songo from the 1970&#8217;s, there would be no Timba in the 1990&#8217;s!<\/p>\n<p>The song I present today is the title song of basically the last &#8220;pure Songo&#8221; album, &#8220;Aqui el Que Baila Gana&#8221;, which came out in 1990.<br \/>\nVan Van&#8217;s next album, &#8220;Azucar&#8221;, from 1993 is already very much a transitional stage between Songo and Tibma, containing compositions which belong to both genres&#8230; in 1996 and 1997, with &#8220;Ay dios, Amparame!&#8221;, and certainly with &#8220;Esto te Pone la Cabeza Mala&#8221;, the band was already fully immersed in the golden age on Timba&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>So, here it is, from a live concert in Cali<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Hf0rGDWoE_4\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>And also the album \\ studio version:<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/a8aFAJyGZT4\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Disfruten!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Good day dear readers and blog followers!
