{"id":266,"date":"2014-02-07T14:19:29","date_gmt":"2014-02-07T14:19:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/salsalust.com\/blogs\/cuban_music_che\/?p=266"},"modified":"2018-03-10T18:10:31","modified_gmt":"2018-03-10T18:10:31","slug":"07-02-14-r-i-p-amigo-rafael","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/salsayo.com\/blogs\/cuban_music_che\/?p=266","title":{"rendered":"07.02.14 : R.I.P Amigo Rafael !"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Greetings to all of my readers.<\/p>\n<p>This week I bring you a very sad piece of news; a few days ago, on February 5th 2014, after suffering for a long while from cardiovascular and respiratory problems, Rafael Labarrera Montero passed away from respiratory insuficiency at Lima&#8217;s 2 de mayo hospital, Lima, Peru.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/cde.peru21.pe\/ima\/0\/0\/1\/1\/7\/117581.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"630\" height=\"355\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Rafael was the son of the great conguero Manolo Labarrera (long time conguero of Los Van Van);<\/p>\n<p>Sharing his father&#8217;s musical talent, Rafael decided to become a singer rather than a percussionist.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years Rafael sang with Original De Manzanillo, Bamboleo, Orquesta Mayimbe and a number of other bands (such as chispa y los complices).<\/p>\n<p>After the grand conflict which happened at Orquesta Mayimbe (link here) during 2012 \\ 2013, Rafael was among the ones to leave the band, forming another band by the name &#8220;Rafael Labarrera y Su Mayimbe&#8221;, but was later forced to drop the name after legal action taken against him by Barbaro Fines.<\/p>\n<p>The song which IMO represents Rafael best is &#8220;La Fiera&#8221;, which matches quite well his free spirited, and often outrageous, life style.<\/p>\n<p>Also, it demonstrates Rafael&#8217;s vocal abilities to their fullest.<\/p>\n<p>R.I.P amigo Rafael!<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/W4jw9xomGlg\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Greetings to all of my readers.
